We are a hardwood floor company that prides itself on offering the best selection of wood flooring types. We offer everything from solid hardwood flooring to engineered hardwood flooring. Below, you’ll learn how to take care of your new hardwood floors so they’ll last you for years to come.
Preventative Care
A lot of hardwood floor damage can be prevented by taking the proper precautions. Follow our tips below to maintain beautiful hardwood floors.
Regular Cleaning
Sweep, dust, or vacuum the floor regularly with the hard floor attachment (not the beater bar) to prevent dirt or grit from building up on your floors. Dirt has an abrasive quality that can scratch or dull the floor finish.
Occasionally wipe the floor with a damp mop or cloth. Don't mop wood flooring with water, soap, oil-soap detergent, or any other liquid cleaning material. This could cause your floors to swell, warp, de-laminate, or cause joint-line separation. Not following the specific care instructions for the product can also void the warranty. The salespeople at our hardwood flooring company will be able to tell you what maintenance is required before you buy.
Don’t use the following on your hardwood flooring:
Spot Cleaning
Use a damp cloth to blot spills and spots as soon as they happen. Tough spots like oil, paint, markers, lipstick, ink, tar, or cigarette marks will need more powerful spot cleaning. For these stains, use acetone or nail polish remover on a clean white cloth, then wipe with a damp cloth. Always blot up liquids from your floors as soon as possible.
For spots such as candle wax or chewing gum, harden the spot with ice and then gently scrape with a plastic scraper (credit cards work well). Be careful not to scratch the flooring surface. Wipe clean with a damp cloth.
