To streamline carpet installation, we recommend checking out our tips for how to prepare your home for our contractors. Our carpet installation contractors have been working for us for over 20 years. As a result, they work efficiently and produce quality results. However, there are certain things you can do to make the process easier for everyone.
Arrange to Have Your Existing Flooring Removed
Before new carpeting can be installed, you’ll need to have the existing floor removed. Our carpet removal contractors are able to do this, but you’ll need to let us know ahead of time. You may also choose to have someone else remove your flooring.
To reduce the amount of dust that stirs into the air during removal, you’ll need to vacuum beforehand. We recommend you also vacuum the floor underneath once we pull up the existing carpeting.
Arrange to Have Your Furniture Moved
Obviously, furniture will need to be moved into another room before we can pull up old carpet and replace it with new. You can either move furniture yourself or have our helpful carpet installers do the heavy lifting. Let us know ahead of time if you need help moving furniture. Make sure to remove all fragile items from the room and don’t leave anything—such as drapery or plants—hanging over the installation area.
Measure Your Door Clearances
If the new carpet is thicker than what was previously on your floor, you’ll need to measure the door clearance before installation. Carpeting that is too thick will interfere with your ability to open and close doors. Plan in advance to have someone shave or saw the correct amount off the bottom of each door so they don’t drag.
Paint Before Installing New Carpeting
It makes sense to paint or wallpaper the room before installing new carpet. That way, you won’t worry if a few spots of paint spill on the carpeting you’re about to replace. Other remodeling work should also be done before new carpet installation. Keep extra paint to touch up any post-installation nicks.
