For area rug maintenance and care, you’ll want to check the warranty for specific care requirements. For example, shag rugs require special care because of their long cable yarn strands. Since the long strands in your shag rug will wrap around the beater brush, you’ll need to remove the beater brush from your vacuum (consult your vacuum owner’s manual). Rake shag area rug to loosen crumbs, hair, and other debris. Once the beater bar has been removed, you may vacuum your shag rug on the lowest heat setting for best suction.
Vacuuming will remove crumbs, dirt, dust, and hair stuck between rug fibers. To extend the life of your area rug, make sure to vacuum twice a week in areas with light to medium foot traffic. You should vacuum daily in areas with heavy foot traffic. Our area rug store has so much selection that our salespeople will be able to find a rug that is both kid-proof and life-proof.
To maintain the appearance and function of your area rugs, you’ll want to invest in a professional carpet cleaning every so often using the hot water extraction method. Do not dry clean your rugs or use bleach. Doing so will destroy the look of your area rugs. For example, bleach leaves behind unsightly blotches. Before buying an area rug at our carpet flooring store, be sure to ask our salespeople what cleaning and maintenance is required.
You must clean spills as soon as possible by blotting them with a clean cloth. Do not rub or scrub the stain as this will drive the stain further into the rug fibers. Spot clean with a solution of clear dishwashing detergent and water (1/4 tsp dishwashing detergent to 1 quart of warm water). Rinse with water and blot dry. Do not dry clean and do not bleach.
