ATLANTA (November 20, 2008) - Carpet Bonanza Flooring Center has been recognized as a finalist for the first annual Mohawk GreenWorks Dealer of the Year Award. Dave Machiela, owner of Carpet Bonanza, was presented with the finalist award at a ceremony in Atlanta. The award, sponsored by Mohawk Industries, the world's largest flooring manufacturer, recognizes floorcovering retailers who have incorporated exceptional environmental and sustainability practices into their businesses. Carpet Bonanza will receive $1,000 that it can donate to a sustainable cause, or use for another sustainably based effort within its own business.

Carpet Bonanza has a variety of environmental and sustainability programs. The company has diverted more than one million pounds of carpet cushion from landfills, and this year alone has recycled more than 80 tons of used carpet. Carpet Bonanza has reduced its energy use and waste materials, advertises green products, and is known as a local supporter of non-profit organizations and community festivals. Judges for the competition noted that Carpet Bonanza has "a holistic approach that demonstrates a real commitment to all three pillars of sustainability--economy, society and the environment. And their recycling efforts show the big impact that just a single company can have."

A panel of three independent judges from the environmental and sustainability profession judged the entries, narrowing the field to three finalists.
